As an entrepreneur I bet you constantly have new business ideas flooding into your mind all the time. If you’re anything like me, I get excited about every new idea and want to get feedback from friends, family, colleagues etc to see what they think.
A lot of times I find I get negative feedback which can drive self-doubt and insecurities into my mind. It’s fine for people to express their opinions (which is why I ask them for feedback in the first place) but you have to remember that most people in this world are dealing with limited beliefs in their own mind from their own personal experiences in life.
Are you one of those people who believes they can do anything and don’t let the opinion of others stop you from pursuing your passion or do you let negatives creep into your mind and prevent you from moving forward?
In today’s post we are going to explore 4 techniques for dealing with negatives from one of my favorite teachers on mindset, John Keyhoe of Learn Mind Powers.
Ready? Here we go…
Technique #1 Cut it off – Using the cut it off technique, the instant you get a negative thought in your mind, you cut it off and start thinking about something else. You don’t give it a chance to foster into anything bigger. Like staying on top of the weeks in your garden, you pull it out before it has a chance to grow.
Technique #2 Label it – With the labeling technique you acknowledge the negative thought but see it from a third person perspective. When a negative thought enters your mind, think hmmm, that’s just a negative thought I’m having how interesting, and pay it no further attention.
Technique #3 Think the opposite – In this technique you are to think the exact opposite of the negative thought. For example if a thought enters your mind that you won’t make a sale or the meeting you have scheduled later on is going to go poorly then imagine in your mind the exact opposite. You’re going to make twice as much in the sale and your meeting is going to be the best one you’ve ever had!
Technique #4 Exaggerate it – This technique can be really fun. Take the negative thought and exaggerate it using your imagination into ridiculousness. Make a hilarious story out of it in your mind to the point where your laughing out loud and people think you’ve gone crazy. The key with this technique is to make sure you exaggerate it into a ridiculous story and don’t just exaggerate the negative thought into something even more negative.
I use these techniques every single day. They are part of my mental survival toolkit and have helped my countless times. The more you do it the easier it becomes and the less negative thoughts you’ll have. This can be used in every aspect of your life, not just business.
To your success!
